New Way to License Your Pet!
Posted by: shelter | Posted on: August 10, 2026For many years, all dogs and cats in the city of New Albany have been required to be licensed with the New Albany Animal Shelter, this is outlined in our city ordinances. We are excited to announce that those licenses can now be completed online! Visit the New Albany Public Portal to license a new pet or renew an existing license. Licensing not only ensures compliance with New Albany city ordinances—it also protects your pet! Any dog or cat found with a license tag on their collar can have owners contacted, ensuring your pet gets home safe!
You can also use your license to get access to the New Albany Dog Park located at 1935 Budd Road – New Albany, IN 47150. You can find information about getting a membership on their website (New Albany Dog Park!)
Licenses are to be renewed annually, unless your pet has a Lifetime License. Fees vary, depending on whether your pet has been spayed or neutered. To issue your pet a license, we will need a copy of your current rabies certificate.
