A Message from the Shelter: Funding
Many people ask us every day if our funding situation has been resolved by our County Council members. We feel that it is time for the community to have an update. The County Council is still choosing to not provide funding for the animal shelter. By making this decision, they are jeopardizing the future of the interlocal agreement, not living up to their contract, and putting the continuation of animal control and sheltering services at risk for members of our county. The County Council can try to justify their actions, but we will never agree that their reasons justify withholding funding. We KNOW what it takes to provide animal control and sheltering services to the community. If the interlocal agreement is disbanded, how does the county plan on providing these services and humane, adequate care for animals? Do they think that trained, knowledgeable people in animal sheltering are just waiting to start a shelter in Floyd County? How can it POSSIBLY be fiscally responsible to have to build another animal shelter in this community because a few members of a political organization want to “fix” something by breaking it?
