Velma is just one of nearly a dozen Shih tzus that were removed from a hoarding situation by the New Albany Floyd County Animal Shelter at the end of June. While her story is heartbreaking, it also shows how much faith and hope our canine friends have in us. They had no idea what was happening. They were scared and worried. Yet through it all, they trusted us and the many hands that assisted in their care.

We want to thank all of the local groomers that took time out of their already full schedules to assist in emergency grooming for these dogs. Grooming for dogs in such conditions is both technically and mentally hard. We could not thank the following enough for their part in the recovery of these sweet dogs.

We are ecstatic to finally announce that they will be ready for their new homes on Friday June 15th. These Shih tzus may be very different than many other dogs, but they have come so far and we are so excited to be able to give them what they deserve – a loving home where they can find out what being truly loved really means.

Adoption hours are 12-4 Mon- Friday and 11-2:30 on Saturday. Adoptions will be processed on a first come first serve basis. We encourage families to read the “Rehabilitating Puppy Mill Dogs” article on our website (www.nafcanimalshelter.org) for more insight on what these dogs may experience going to a new home. Adoption fees are $80. They are all spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested negative, and current on vaccinations.
