How can you help?
Posted by: shelter | Posted on: December 4, 2010Many people are calling us expressing an interest in helping, or adopting a rescue dog! Thank you ALL for your offers of assistance! While all the dogs that urgently needed foster care have been placed with experienced foster families, you can still help!
We are going to need extra cleaning supplies: bleach, paper towels, laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, and hand soap are supplies that we never have enough of. In addition, the shelter animals need your used towels and blankets, and dog and cat toys. Canned Science Diet puppy food and puppy pads will be needed for foster families and for helping with the process of weaning puppies.
Monetary donations for the medical supplies needed for the care of these dogs can also make the difference. These can be made at the shelter, by mail, or even by PayPal through the website. These dogs are all currently receiving treatment for zoonotic parasitic diseases, and will soon begin their journey towards discovering what life can be like for a dog that’s a member of the family, not a piece of livestock! In addition, several of the pugs may need additional veterinary care for some congenital problems. Heartworm testing will begin next week, so keep your fingers crossed that all of the dogs are negative for heartworm disease. Everyone will be altered, vaccinated, and microchipped before being placed up for adoption.
The shelter anticipates that these small breed dogs will begin being released for adoption in mid-December. Do not overlook other dogs and cats that are available for adoption at your local animal shelter! The NAFC Animal Shelter will begin featuring sponsored animal adoptions in their 12 Strays of Christmas program on December 12th. Sponsors are still needed, so watch the website for upcoming announcements.
