Homes for The Holidays Campaign Begins November 8th!
The New Albany Floyd Co Animal Control & Shelter is on a mission, along with nearly 3,500 other shelters from around the world, to help place 1.5 million homeless pets together with loving adoptive families. We hope that all area residents will participate in the Iams Home 4 the Holidays 2009 pet adoption campaign, November 9th through Jan. 4, 2010.Our goal is to place every orphaned pet in a forever home during this holiday season!
To kick off the event, we will be featuring our “Colors of the Season Saleâ€. Every week a certain color of adoptable aniaml will be discounted. November 9th through November 14th, all black animals will be $15 off their adoption fee. Watch the website for new specials each week. Thanks to The Floyd Co Animal Rescue League for helping make discounted adoptions available throughout the year!
The highly successful “Twelve Strays of Christmas†adoption campaign is currently accepting donations for adoption sponsorships. Sponsorships allow us to feature our difficult to place animals as free adoptions. Last year we adopted 30 animals through this program! Contact the shelter at 812-948-5355 for more information about the Twelve Strays Of Christmas program.

Shelter Closed Temporarily
The New Albany/Floyd County Animal Control & Shelter has potentially been exposed to Feline Virulent Calicivirus (FVC). Feline calicivirus is a virus that can cause respiratory infection in cats only. This is a highly contagious, potentially dangerous disease and we have decided to take all safety precautions in protecting the community and are closing our doors temporarily. On consultation with experts at Purdue University, this disease is transmitted by physical contact, human to feline and feline to feline. The cat in question is being taken to Purdue University for diagnosis and they have advised us it is unlikely we have FVC, but we are taking all precautions to be on the safe side. We should know within 48 hours if this is FVC and when the shelter will reopen.
It is important to note that at this time we only have one suspected case and no other cats showing symptoms.
Check back for updates!
