Animal shelter program is reducing the number of   unwanted cats, dogs

While the goal of most businesses is to grow, The New Albany-Floyd County Animal Shelter is delighted to report that its business has declined by 25 percent over the last three years.

“Our dream is to have no stock,” shelter director David Hall said.

Animal Care Coordinator Theresa Stilger agreed saying, “We want to go out of business, but that will never happen.”

Visitors to the facility in downtown New Albany are greeted by a large banner proclaiming, “Save Thousands of Lives! Spay Neuter Adopt.”Stilger said she believes the reduction in their intake numbers is a direct result of the shelter’s “Fix Your Critter Day” low-cost spay/neuter program.
