Tails are Wagging With Hope

“Adoptable animals at the New Albany Floyd County Animal Shelter are wagging their tails with hope as they wait for visitors to come,” states Animal Care Coordinator, Theresa Stilger, “ We want to remind people that even though the Sherman Minton bridge is closed, our adoptable animals are worth the drive! Our adoption fees are very affordable, and our animals are in desperate need of homes.”  Dog adoptions are $80, and cats 4lbs and up are only $20. Kittens under 4 lbs are $60. All animals are altered, tested for heartworms or FELV/FIV when appropriate, vaccinated, microchipped, and even a Feeders Supply coupon book.  “We feel that the adoption experience at our shelter is the best in the area, and we want to help you take home a happy, healthy pet.”

The NAFC Animal Shelter wants to hold true to its Operation P.E.A.C.E. initiative, which is an acronym for Placing Every Adoptable Creature Encountered. This will not be possible if people stop adopting from municipal animal shelters. Director David Hall said that The NAFC Animal Shelter has consulted with Purdue University’s Shelter Medicine specialist, Dr. Listler, about distemper and other diseases in the community and in area animal shelters. “We feel very reassured that we are taking every possible precaution to keep our shelter animals safe. Vaccinations are given immediately upon shelter intake, and our disinfection and vaccination protocols are impeccable.”

The NAFC Animal Shelter will continue to monitor the situation in our area, and will respond with additional measures to protect pets in our community if needed. We would ask that all pet owners be responsible and ensure their pets’ continuing good health by keeping their pets properly vaccinated!
