Pet of the Week: Poppy
Poppy is such a sweet Boxer that has already been through so much in her estimated 5 years of life! Originally, she came to the Shelter as a stray. After finding out that she had a severely broken jaw, The Arrowfund graciously took her in to get her the help she needed. After amputation of part of her lower jaw the vet found some masses that ended up being cancerous. Those were removed and she was spayed without any further complications. Her foster family ended up not being a good fit for her because it turns out that she does not do well with other dogs, and can be a bit of an escape artist. The New Albany Animal Shelter now has Poppy in their care and for visitations, but adoptions would still be completed through the Arrowfund. She is so affectionate with people and can get attached very easily. Please help this girl get out of the Shelter and into the forever home that she deserves! For more information or to contact the Arrowfund about adoption, please visit, www.thearrowfund.org. Pet of the Week :Sirracha
Sirracha is an older Chihuahua looking for a new home. He is estimated to be about 10 years old. He has been checked over thoroughly by a vet and is in great shape for his age! He does prefer calmer environments. He is already neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested negative, and current on vaccinations. His adoption fee is $80. Please help him find someone who will give him the love and affection he needs for the rest of his life!

Fall Safety
The start of fall brings new seasonal household items that pose a threat to the safety of our pets. These common household items can cause serious problems if ingested by animals. Here is the list of seasonal products that the veterinarians at Pet Poison Helpline recommend keeping away from pets.
While most mushrooms are generally non-toxic, certain types can be very dangerous and are hard to identify.
Dog Sitting Dilemmas
Over the last several months, we have seen dog sitting dilemmas time and time again here at the shelter. In some situations, the pet gets loose from the sitter and ends up at the shelter. Other times, someone who decided to lend a hand and watch a pet for a bit, ends up with the pet long after the pet was supposed to be returned home. Another problem is when the owners return home to find the conditions of their beloved pets much worse, because the dog sitter didn’t do as they were instructed.
If you are dog sitting for someone, or using a sitter, there are several things you can do to help protect yourself and the pet, as well as to help the sitter be held accountable.
